As a Prison Healthcare Assistant, you will support registered nursing staff in delivering high-quality healthcare services within a prison environment. You will assist with clinical tasks, patient observations, and general care, ensuring dignity, safety, and confidentiality are maintained at all times.
This role requires reliability, strong communication skills, and the ability to follow clinical and security procedures in a secure setting.
Key Responsibilities
Support nurses with daily clinical duties and patient care
Carry out basic clinical observations (e.g. blood pressure, pulse, temperature)
Assist with health screenings and routine assessments
Support medication rounds under supervision (where trained and authorised)
Maintain clean, safe, and organised clinical areas
Accurately document care and observations in patient records
Promote infection control, safeguarding, and patient wellbeing
Adhere to prison security procedures and healthcare policies
Work collaboratively with nursing staff, GPs, and prison officers
Requirements
Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant (HCA)
Active prison clearance (essential)
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (preferred)
Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding, and professional boundaries
Ability to work effectively in a secure and structured environment
Good communication and teamwork skills
