As a Prison RGN, you will provide high-quality general nursing care to individuals within a prison setting. The role involves health assessments, long-term condition management, medication administration, and responding to acute and urgent healthcare needs, while ensuring compliance with prison protocols and clinical governance standards.
This role requires strong clinical competence, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively within a secure environment.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct initial health assessments and ongoing clinical reviews
Deliver primary care and acute nursing interventions
Administer and manage medications in line with PGDs and policies
Support management of long-term conditions
Respond to medical emergencies and urgent healthcare needs
Work collaboratively with GPs, mental health teams, and prison staff
Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation
Promote health education, infection control, and safeguarding
Adhere to prison security procedures and healthcare policies
Requirements
Registered General Nurse (RGN) with valid NMC registration
Active prison clearance (essential)
Previous prison or secure environment experience (preferred)
Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
Ability to work independently in a structured, secure setting
Excellent communication and organisational skills
