​As a Prison RGN, you will provide high-quality general nursing care to patients within a prison setting. This includes performing health assessments, managing acute and long-term conditions, administering medications, and supporting overall patient wellbeing in line with clinical standards and prison policies.

This role requires clinical competence, adaptability, and the ability to work effectively within a secure environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct initial health assessments and ongoing clinical reviews

• Deliver primary care and acute nursing interventions

• Administer and manage medications in line with PGDs and prison protocols

• Support management of long-term conditions

• Respond to urgent healthcare needs and medical emergencies

• Collaborate with GPs, mental health teams, and prison staff

• Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation

• Promote infection control, safeguarding, and patient wellbeing

• Adhere to prison security procedures and healthcare policies

Requirements

• Registered General Nurse (RGN) with valid NMC registration

• Active prison clearance (essential)

• Previous experience in a prison or secure environment (preferred)

• Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills

• Ability to work independently and manage challenging situations

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
