As a Prison RMN, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality mental health care to individuals within a custodial setting. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients with a wide range of mental health needs, ensuring care is delivered in line with clinical guidelines, prison protocols, and professional standards.
This role requires strong clinical judgement, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a secure and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and risk assessments
Develop, implement, and review individualised care plans
Provide therapeutic interventions and crisis support
Manage and support patients with complex mental health needs
Work collaboratively with prison officers, GPs, psychologists, and wider MDT
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Promote safeguarding, risk management, and patient wellbeing
Ensure compliance with prison security procedures and healthcare policies
Requirements
Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with valid NMC registration
Active prison clearance (essential)
Previous experience working in a prison or secure setting (preferred)
Strong understanding of mental health legislation and safeguarding
Ability to work independently and manage challenging situations
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
