Job Title: Senior I Radiographer (X-ray & CT)

Reports to: General X-ray & CT Superintendent

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Flexible hours including out of hours and weekend shifts

The post holder will be based between the CT and General X-ray departments carrying out CT scans and general X-rays on a daily basis, depending on where the individual has been rostered to. Therefore, a flexible and adaptive working attitude is crucial, along with a willingness to participate in the out of hours (including nights) and weekend rotas.

The CT Department is currently comprised of one GE 750 HD CT scanner and is a very busy and challenging place to work. A variety of CT examinations including full body imaging, neurological, cardiac and biopsy procedures are undertaken, as well as some specialist orthopaedic imaging.

The X-ray department has two general X-ray rooms, an OPG machine, one fluoroscopy room, one DEXA scanner and one mammography machine. There is also a need to provide imaging external to the main department, namely in Theatres, Theatre Recovery and ITU.

The post holders objective will be to work with a team of Senior and Superintendent Radiographers to provide high standards of service to all of The Hospitals customers. The departments can be extremely busy and the job holder must be able to work well under pressure in a complex environment. The post holder will have an adaptability and sensitivity to work within a diverse working environment. The post holder must have the ability, as well as the willingness to work independently, such as out of hours, as well as with a team and occasionally leading a more junior team of Radiographers.

Key objectives of the post : To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team - showing flexibility of shared tasks to ensure that we provide the best quality service in a pleasant environment for both fellow staff and patients.

To ensure that a safe, high quality, efficient service is delivered to all patients and Consultant users.

To participate in out of hours, night and weekend shifts, as per the monthly roster.

To lead the CT/X-ray department, when required, and liaise closely with the General X-ray & CT Superintendent.

To train junior members of staff and new starters.

To undertake clinical audit and equipment QA as and when required.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

1. Operational

1.1 Responsibility for the daily management of the CT and X-ray services in liaison with the Superintendent Radiographers. Organising the daily work programme to ensure that the department runs efficiently.

1.2 Deputising for the Superintendent Radiographers as appropriate.

1.3 To participate in departmental night shifts and to work flexible hours when required to accommodate changing workload patterns in the CT and X-ray departments.

1.4 To develop and maintain staff rotas to ensure optimal staff provision in the CT and X-ray departments. Participation in the departmental night and weekend shifts.

1.5 To supervise the professional standards and operational management of the rotating junior staff and their training in the CT and X-ray departments, ensuring a consistent level of service is maintained at all times.

1.6 To understand and implement all policies and procedures relating to general X-ray and CT scanning.

1.7 To keep up to date with X-ray and CT scanning developments and participate in teaching other staff.
