Hours: Full Time 10 PAs

Contract: Permanent

Location: Birmingham

Salary: £93, 666 - £126, 281 per annum

An exceptional opportunity awaits an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join an Acute Inpatient/Home Treatment Team in vibrant Birmingham. In this role, you will offer medical guidance to the Home Treatment Team, collaborating closely with senior multidisciplinary colleagues to spearhead the advancement of clinical services. Together, you will address significant psychiatric challenges and navigate complex social disparities.

Your responsibilities will extend to driving service enhancements and fostering innovation to ensure the delivery of a robust acute care pathway. Birmingham, the UK's second-largest city, offers a rich tapestry of cultural, social, and recreational pursuits. With over 50 operational sites, the Trust serves a diverse population of 1.2 million across 172 square miles, providing a dynamic backdrop for professional growth and community engagement.

Key role and responsibilities for the Consultant Psychiatrist Acute Inpatient role:

  • Provide senior medical input to the Home Treatment Team which is aligned with the Integrated Community Service.
  • Work with team managers and other senior colleagues as part of a leadership team.
  • Multidisciplinary review meetings.
  • Assess patients in crisis.
  • Daily reviewing of patients on the caseload.
  • Discharge planning.
  • The Mental Health Act work will include management of patients on Section 17 leave, Community Treatment orders, tribunals and Section 117 meetings.
  • You will be expected to maintain excellent working relationship with community, inpatient and urgent care consultants to manage the interface between services and to ensure seamless transition of patients between services.

Minimum requirements for the Consultant Psychiatrist Acute Inpatient is:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practice.
  • MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Section 12(2) approval, Approved Clinician status.
  • Broad clinical training including both inpatient and community service.
  • Obtained inclusion on the Specialist Register; or within six months of the award of a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in General Adult Psychiatry; or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register.
