Consultant Psychiatrist - General Adult Community

Do you want to be part of a new model of community mental health care working across an Integrated Care System?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of two CMHTs in the Solihull Community Hub. The CMHT looks after adults over the age of 25 and has links to other teams within the Community Hub which includes the Older Adult CMHT and Assertive Outreach Team. There is also a dedicated Home Treatment Team that is geographically linked to the CMHT.
It is anticipated that referrals and caseload numbers are likely to reduce as we progress with our Community Mental Health Transformation as part of the Long-Term Plan. There will be less focus on static caseloads and more focus on partnership working in local neighbourhoods aligned to Primary Care Networks.
The indicative job plan is: 7.5 PAs Direct Clinical Care and 2.5 PAs Support Professional Activities.
Key role and responsibilities for the Consultant Psychiatrist General Adult role:
- Provide expert assessments for patients with mental health difficulties referred by General
Practitioners from the designated catchment area or transferred from other services within
the Trust e.g., Home treatment, RAID (psychiatric liaison services in Accident and
Emergency departments) and formulate care plans informed by best evidence-based
practice.
- Develop risk assessment and management plans in conjunction with the Multidisciplinary
team, service user, carers and other involved agencies and facilitate maximum
empowerment of the service user and carer in developing informed choice of treatment
interventions.
- Be the Responsible Clinician and be willing to undertake training to obtain section 12(2)
MHA and renew this approval according to agreed procedures. Undertake assessments
to include Mental Health Act assessments where appropriate.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of care planning through the MDT.
- Provide evidence-based bio-psychosocial interventions to promote recovery and social
inclusion, including integrative working with external agencies to ensure community
engagement.
- Involvement in the teaching of junior doctors and medical students.
Minimum requirements for the Consultant Psychiatrist General Adult role is:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Full GMC registration with licence to practice.
- MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
- Section 12(2) approval, Approved Clinician status.
- Substantial experience of psychiatry, including working with people suffering from severe mental illness, preferably in a community setting.
- Obtained inclusion on the Specialist Register; or within six months of the award of a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in General Adult Psychiatry; or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register.
- 33 days annual leave.
